Resolve issues after changing your online ID

How to resolve issues after changing your PSN online ID

Find out how to resolve technical issues, such as lost data or hidden trophies, caused by a PlayStation™Network online ID change.

When changing your online ID

Please consider the following:

  • PS4 games may experience issues after an online ID change. A list of PS4 games tested with the online ID change feature can be found here*.
  • Your new online ID must comply with our Terms of Service, including the Community Code of Conduct.
  • PS3 and PS Vita games and apps do not support the online ID change feature.
  • If you experience technical issues, you can revert back to your original online ID for free. Reverting to your previous online ID should resolve most issues caused by the ID change.
  • Online IDs can’t be changed for child accounts.

*Some games which have no known issues identified on the list may still experience issues if you change your online ID.

How to troubleshoot issues after changing your online ID

When changing an online ID you may experience issues with some games such as lost game progress. If you are experiencing issues after an online ID change, please contact PlayStation Support (using the link at the bottom of this page) to change back to your previous online ID.

Changing back to your previous online ID is free and should resolve most issues. However, this may not fix all issues (for example, you may not recover lost content, progress, and functionality). We recommend that, if you want to change back to a previous online ID, do so as soon as possible, because it may affect content, game progress, and functionality associated with your new online ID.

Online ID is now Temp-xxxxxx

If your online ID was changed to Temp-xxxxxx, please check the guide below.

If you find that your new online ID is now Temp-xxxxxx, this change was caused by a report from another player and an investigation by moderation staff, with a finding that your online ID has breached the PSN Terms of Service. Please see the Community Code of Conduct page below for more details.

You can revert to your previous online ID, as long as it does not breach PSN Terms of Service. To revert to your previous online ID, contact PlayStation Support using the link at the bottom of this page.

Your original online ID has been reported as inappropriate. This type of online ID change can’t be reverted. You can change your online ID from Temp-xxxxxx by following the guide below. If you find that you are having data-loss issues, please contact PlayStation Support using the link at the bottom of this page.
