Learn how to deactivate your PlayStation consoles to allow new console activation and avoid activation limits.
Activating a console links your it to your account and allows you to access PlayStation™Store purchases. Depending on which console you want to use, there are different activation restrictions. You can have the following activations on your account:
To change an activation, you need to manually deactivate the previous console. If you can't access the console, it's still possible to remotely deactivate all devices attached to your account using Account Management on a web browser.
Go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4.
Select Deactivate > Yes.
Select your local user account and go to PlayStation Network > Sign-in > Account Management.
Go to System Activation and highlight PS3.
Select the type of content you want to deactivate for your PlayStation®3 console: Game or Video.
Select Deactivate System.
Tap Settings on the home screen.
Go to PlayStation Network > System Activation.
Select the type of content you want to deactivate: Game or Video.
Tap Deactivate > OK.
If you can't access a PlayStation console, it’s still possible to deactivate (and sign out of) all devices attached to your account using Account Management on a web browser.
You can only deactivate your consoles once every six months.
Sign in to Account Management.
Select Device Management > PlayStation Consoles > Deactivate All Devices.
Please note, PlayStation Video cannot be remotely deactivated and you'll need to do this on the console itself. If you no longer have access to the console linked to PlayStation Video, please contact us.
