How to use Share Screen and Share Play on PS5 consoles

Let other players in a party watch your gameplay in real-time, or pass the controls and let someone try one of your games, or play the game together, even if you're not on the same console.

How to start Share Screen from a party on a PS5 console

  1. While in a party, go to the control center and select the party voice chat card. 
  2. Select Start Share Screen to start sharing your game screen.
  1. Press the create button to open the create menu, and then select Share Screen
  2. If you're already in a party voice chat, select Start Share Screen.
    If you're not in a party voice chat, you can create an open party and let your friends, as well as friends of party members, join the party. Set the options for the open party and then select Start Share Screen.
  1. Go to a player's profile and select the Share Screen button
  2. Select Start Share Screen to invite the player to watch you play.
  • A notification lets you and the other players in the party know that Share Screen has started.
  • Only your game screen and audio are shared. Other screens and non-game app screens won't be visible to your viewers. Depending on the game, some scenes may not appear to your viewers.
  • If you want to share your screen with a PS4™ console player, you can do so by using Share Play

How to watch another player’s screen on PS5 consoles

You receive a notification when a player in your party starts Share Screen. 

  1. Press the PS button on your controller to go to the control center and select Notifications.
  2. Open the Share Screen notification to start watching.
  • The Share Screen card appears in the control center when someone in your party starts Share Screen. When you select the card for the first time, you'll start watching the gameplay of the most recent player to share.
  • When a player in a joinable party is sharing their screen, the ON AIR icon appears on the party. 

How to request to watch another player’s screen

  1. From your friends list, open a friend's profile
  2. Select the Share Screen button, and select Request Share Screen.
  • You're notified when they start sharing their screen.
  • Use the latest version of PlayStation™App on a mobile device to view a player's screen. 

How to start Share Play on a PS5 console

You can start Share Play after you've started a party voice chat. To start Share Play, you need to be a PlayStation Plus member.

  1. Press the PS button to go to the control center, and select the party voice chat card.
  2. Select Start Share Play.
  3. Invite a player, and then select the play mode.
    Share Play starts when the player joins.
  • To change the play mode or stop Share Play, go to the control center, select the party voice chat card, and then select Share Play Options.
  • You can use Share Play with only one visitor at a time.
  • If the invited player isn’t a PlayStation Plus member, Play with the Visitor can't be selected.

How to join Share Play on a PS5 console

  1. When a player invites you to Share Play, open the notification and select Join.
    You can also press the PS button go to the control center, select the party voice chat card, select the host, and then select Join Share Play.
  2. The host's game screen appears on your screen. You start the play mode chosen by the host.
  3. When you want to leave Share Play, select the party voice chat card, select the host, and then select Leave Share Play Session.
    You can also close Share Play from your games home.

Please note when you join Share Play, the game you're playing is suspended. If you were playing an online game, the network connection for the game ends when you join Share Play; you'll have to manually reconnect to resume your game.

Choose a Share Play mode

When you start Share Play, you're the host and the player who joins is the visitor.

Choose one of the two following play modes:

Visitor Plays as You
Need a hand? Give the visitor control over your game. As the host, you need to be a PlayStation Plus member.

Play with the Visitor
Play a game together as host and visitor. Both the host and visitor need to be PlayStation Plus members.

  • When you invite a PS4 console player to Share Play, Share Your Screen with Visitor appears as one of the play modes. This lets you share your screen with a PS4 console player. 

  • A Share Play session lasts for one hour and automatically ends one hour after the visitor joins.

  • When you're the host, only you can earn trophies during Share Play.

  • Only your game screen and audio are shared. Other screens and non-game app screens won't be visible to the visitor. Depending on the game, Share Play may not be available, or some scenes may not appear to the visitor.

Share Play and Share Screen explained

Use Share Screen to let other players in a party watch your gameplay in real-time as if you're all in the same room.

With Share Play, your game screen appears on another player's screen. Both of you can enjoy the same game, regardless of who owns it. 

To start Share Play, you need to be a PlayStation®Plus member.
