How to reset a PlayStation Network password

If you forget your PlayStation™Network (PSN) password, you can reset it from the web or on your PlayStation console.

How to reset a PSN password

  1. Go to the Account Management sign-in page and select Trouble Signing in? > Reset your password and enter your sign-in ID (email address). 
  1. You are sent an email containing a secure link. The verification email can take a few minutes to arrive. If you don't receive it within 24 hours, please click here for more help. 
  2. Follow the secure link, fill in the requested information, and create a new password using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.
  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In
  2. On the sign-in screen, press the triangle button, and then select Next. An email for changing your password is sent to the sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen.

  4. Follow the secure link, fill in the requested information and create a new password using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.

If you have access to a PS4 that you have activated as your primary PS4, you can reset your password in a couple of clicks — all you need is access to your sign-in ID (email address):

  1. From the PS4 home screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Sign In
  2. On the sign-in screen, press the triangle button, and then select Next. An email for changing your password is sent to the sign-in ID (email address) shown on this screen. 
  3. Click the link in the email and enter a new password.

Can’t access your email address or verification info?

If you can't provide the verification information for your account or open the password reset email, you'll need to contact us.

Didn’t receive a password reset email? 

  • The email may be in your spam folder. Check your email inbox for making sure to search for "PlayStation" in all mailboxes, including any spam or junk folders. 
  • Your email address may be misspelled. Repeat the password reset steps and make sure the email address shown on the “Forgot Your Password?” page is the email address you use to sign in to your account. 
  • Do you have a child account? Only the family manager can reset the password for your account.
  • There may be an issue with Account Management. Sometimes network issues can delay password change emails. Please check the network status page.

Change your account password

If you know your current password and sign-in ID (email address), select an option below to change your password.

  1. Sign in to Account Management
  2. Select Security from the sidebar. 
  3. Click Edit next to Password to change your password. 
  4. Click Save to confirm your changes. 
  5. You can now sign in to your account using your new password.
  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Security
  2. Select Security > Password
  3. Choose and confirm the new password, then select Continue

You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

  1. Go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information and enter your password. 
  2. Select Security > Password
  3. Create and confirm the new password, then select Continue

You can now sign in to your account using your new password.

Reset a child account password

Only a family manager can reset the password for a child account.

  1. Ask the family manager to sign in to Account Management on a web browser. 
  2. The family manager can then go to Family Management.
  3. From this menu, they can select your account and Reset Password.
  1. From the PS5 home screen, ask your family manager to select Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.

  2. From this menu they can select your local user and select Reset Password.

  1. From the PS4 home screen, ask your family manager to select Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management.
  2. From this menu they can select your local user and select Reset Password.
